Assessment and Unit Planning
Backwards Planning; Understanding by Design
Strategies:
  • Brainstorm with students at the beginning of a unit.
  • Decide (with the students) what they should know/be able to do, etc.
  • List assessments (with details, when possible) and approximate dates (subject to change)
  • Brainstorm activities or projects that might be part of assessment (elicit ideas from students and interject your own)
  • List components and cultural concepts that are integral to the unit (i.e. grammatical topics, vocabulary, etc. giving students citations of resources, pages in textbooks, handouts, etc.)
  • Give any additional information for success….
